The X1 Carbon is bought for reasons that do not photograph well: the keyboard, the weight, the hinge that still feels right after three years, the fact that IT departments have supported this line for a decade. Gen 13 does not change that formula, and it should not. For local AI it is deliberately the wrong tool — integrated graphics and a thermal envelope built for silence mean anything beyond small quantised models will crawl. Read it as the machine you carry to do the work, with the inference happening on something else. Judged on that basis it remains one of the few laptops where the hardware stops being something you think about.
