GitHub has introduced a new approach to automating marketing operations using GitHub Issues, forms, labels, and actions. According to the announcement, this method allows marketing teams to plan, discuss, and track events in a structured and automated manner.
Tomoko Tanaka, who runs marketing for GitHub in Japan and Korea, detailed how she used GitHub Issues to manage events such as webinars and community meetups. Each event is represented by a GitHub Issue, which includes structured fields like event title, date, region, and target audience through issue forms. Labels act as triggers for automation workflows, and GitHub Actions parse the form fields to execute tasks.
This system leverages existing GitHub features to provide history, visibility, review, and a URL for every decision, streamlining the marketing workflow and reducing estimated workflow costs.
GitHub Copilot, the company's AI coding assistant, is also mentioned as part of the announcement, highlighting its capabilities in automating coding workflows and reducing costs compared to traditional methods.
