OpenAI Launches Commercial Operations in Brazil
OpenAI has expanded its presence in Brazil with the launch of commercial operations in São Paulo, aiming to drive economic growth and social progress through AI.
OpenAI announced the launch of its commercial operations in Brazil, marking a significant step in the company's commitment to the country. Based in São Paulo, the local team will work closely with Brazilian businesses, developers, researchers, and public institutions to translate rapid AI adoption into economic growth and meaningful progress.
According to an independent study by RegLab, funded by OpenAI, AI could add nearly R$1 trillion to Brazil’s economy by 2030. The study highlights the importance of skills, research, responsible deployment, and collaboration with Brazilian institutions to realize this potential.
Data from June 2026 shows that 35% of classified messages from individual ChatGPT accounts in Brazil were work-related, compared to 30% globally. Of these work-related messages, 53% involved task completion or output generation, such as drafting proposals, analyzing information, writing code, and creating marketing materials.
OpenAI’s local team will help Brazilian organizations identify valuable use cases, prepare their people, establish responsible governance, and scale successful initiatives. The company is also collaborating with Brazilian organizations to develop AI literacy programs, support small businesses, and improve public services.
In the week leading up to the launch, OpenAI held its first OpenAI para Devs roadshow, bringing together 285 developers and technical creators across Brazil to discuss the tools and resources needed for AI development.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, expressed enthusiasm about the potential for collaboration and growth in Brazil, emphasizing OpenAI’s long-term commitment to the country.
