OpenAI Announces $1 Billion Initiative to Protect Essential Services

OpenAI announced a significant initiative aimed at bolstering cybersecurity for essential services. The company is committing $1 billion to expand access to its Daybreak cyber models and products, training, technical support, and partnerships. This initiative, called Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, targets organizations with limited resources and budgets, such as water and electricity providers, local governments, and financial institutions.

The $1 billion commitment includes a new pilot program with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) in the United States. OpenAI will also work with more than 150 organizations across cybersecurity, technology, critical infrastructure, finance, and AI to ensure that frontline defenders have the necessary tools to protect essential services.

Daybreak access will be available to organizations in the United States and will be expanded to partner countries in the coming weeks. The initiative aims to help resource-constrained defenders review legacy code, analyze suspicious activity, identify and validate vulnerabilities, prioritize risks, and develop and test fixes. OpenAI's goal is to build a model that can protect essential services and help put frontier cybersecurity in the hands of frontline defenders around the world.
