Apple Launches New Child Safety Features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27

Apple has released a suite of new child safety features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, aimed at helping parents create safer digital environments for their children. The updates include several new tools and enhancements to existing parental controls, such as:

• Simplified Setup: A streamlined setup process with recommended essential apps for new child accounts.
• Ask to Browse: Parents can require approval before their children access new websites in Safari.
• Expanded Communication Safety: Enhanced protections that block gore and violent content, in addition to nudity, in shared images and videos, including during live FaceTime calls.
• Time Allowances: Parents can set expert-informed, age-tailored time limits for app categories like Social Media, Entertainment, and Games.
• Redesigned Screen Time: An at-a-glance view of usage and one-tap controls to adjust access in real-time.

These features build on Apple's existing industry-leading parental controls and are informed by guidance from online safety and health experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics. Apple has also launched a dedicated website with detailed information on the latest tools and how to get started using them.

All devices in a Family Sharing group must be updated to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 to use the Screen Time update. Some features may not be available in all regions, all languages, or on all models. For more information, visit apple.com.
