The OmniBook is the flagship argument for Copilot+ at 16 inches, and the NPU is what the $1,399 is really buying. Windows' on-device features — live captions, local image generation, Recall-style search — run without a round trip to a server, which matters for latency and for anyone who cannot send work off the machine.

What the NPU does not do

It accelerates Microsoft's features specifically and does very little for third-party local inference. Do not read the AI branding as a general capability — if you want to run your own models, the NPU is close to irrelevant and you should be looking at VRAM instead.

The trade-offs

• Heavy enough that it is a desk machine that travels, not a portable.
