EXL Launches AI-Powered Medical IDP Solution on AWS

EXL has launched an AI-powered Medical Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) solution built on AWS, designed to reduce medical claims review time. According to the announcement, insurance claims adjusters typically spend over 100 minutes per case manually reviewing medical records. The EXL Medical IDP solution, built on AWS, combines IDP with domain-specific large language models (LLMs) to extract, summarize, and query medical information at enterprise scale.

The solution was deployed with a single API-led orchestration (through Amazon API Gateway and AWS Step Functions) across multiple clinical systems such as EPIC, CarePort, Predictal, and document management systems. It processes data in multiple formats, including JSON and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) bundles, and scanned PDFs.

Key AWS services utilized in the solution include Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Cognito, AWS Step Functions, Amazon Textract, Amazon SageMaker AI, Amazon Bedrock, Amazon S3, Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon DynamoDB. The solution automates data ingestion, extraction, validation, and summarization, reducing manual effort and freeing nursing teams to focus on patient care.
