Docker Announces Cloud Sandboxes for Seamless Development Workflow

Docker has announced the launch of Cloud Sandboxes, a new feature that enables developers to run coding agents on their laptops and in the cloud seamlessly. This follows the earlier introduction of Docker Sandboxes, which provided microVM environments for autonomous and safe agent operation.

Cloud Sandboxes allow users to start their work on their laptops and continue it in the cloud with a single command. Sandboxes run for up to 24 hours per session, with a default duration of one hour. Users can access Cloud Sandboxes from the browser or terminal, requiring sbx version 0.45.1 or later and a pay-as-you-go plan available on Docker Personal and Pro accounts.

Local and cloud sandboxes maintain separate secrets, templates, and network policies, ensuring secure and isolated environments. New accounts can claim $250 in free Cloud Sandboxes credit for a limited time.

Docker sees this as a significant shift in how software is built, with developers spending more time directing agents and less time typing. The company emphasizes the importance of environments that are safe and durable enough to run unsupervised for extended periods.

Developers can start using Cloud Sandboxes before closing their laptops tonight, marking a new era in development workflow efficiency and flexibility.
