Cognition Integrates GPT-6 Astra to Enhance Devin's Testing Capabilities

Cognition, the company behind Devin, an autonomous software engineer used by businesses worldwide, has announced the integration of GPT-6 Astra to enhance Devin's testing and validation capabilities. According to the announcement, GPT-6 Astra improves Devin’s ability to test software and demonstrate that it functions as intended, with the goal of reducing manual code review and increasing efficiency.

Walden Yan, Co-founder of Cognition, highlighted the benefits of GPT-6 Astra in a statement: “One of the big pieces that Astra improves on is its ability to test and prove that its work actually functions the way you expect.”

Cognition is applying GPT-6 Astra across its product lineup, including the core cloud agent Devin, CLI, and desktop products. In one example, Devin uses Astra to test Otter Run, an iPhone game, and returns a recording of the game running in a simulator, alongside a report identifying checks that passed and areas left untested. This allows engineers to inspect the software's behavior and understand what still needs attention.

Additionally, Astra helps Cognition respond to customer issues more quickly. When a customer sends a screenshot of a bug, the team can pass it to Devin using Astra, which fixes the issue and returns a screenshot showing the result.

Cognition sees this integration as a path toward a more efficient review process. With Devin testing its work and providing evidence of the results, engineers can evaluate changes with less manual examination of the code. Yan expects that over time, this will lead to less manual code review and more efficient software delivery.

"We expect over time that we have to manually look at less code and end up shipping more at the end of the day. This is one of the things we’re really excited about when it comes to GPT-6," Yan concluded.
