Cloudflare Announces Vinext 1.0: Deploy Next.js Apps Anywhere

Cloudflare has announced the release of Vinext 1.0, a framework designed to make it possible to deploy Next.js applications to any web platform. Vinext 1.0 allows developers to take any Next.js application, whether built for the Pages or App Router, and deploy it to platforms such as Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, or AWS Lambda.

Vinext 1.0 includes significant improvements in compatibility, stability, and caching behaviors. The framework now supports both the App Router and Pages Router, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of customer applications. According to the announcement, Vinext's test compatibility has surpassed 99% for most important customer-requested features, excluding cache components.

To ensure long-term reliability, Cloudflare has developed a comprehensive test suite, including thousands of focused tests covering core framework behavior across both routers, development and production servers, and deployment targets. The company also runs the Next.js end-to-end test suite nightly to monitor compatibility and detect regressions.

Vinext 1.0 is now available for both new applications and existing Next.js projects. Developers can start a new application using the command npm create vinext-app@latest my-app or migrate an existing application with npx vinext check && npx vinext init. For deployment to Cloudflare Workers with cache warming, the command npx @vinext/cloudflare deploy --warm-cache can be used.
