Cloudflare Announces General Availability of Python Workers
Cloudflare has made Python Workers generally available, allowing developers to use Python in the Cloudflare Workers runtime with full support.
Cloudflare has announced the general availability (GA) of Python Workers, a feature introduced two years ago to enable Python applications within the Cloudflare Workers runtime. This move signifies that Python is now a first-class, fully supported language on the Cloudflare Developer Platform, alongside TypeScript.
With Python Workers GA, developers can integrate Python code, libraries, and design patterns seamlessly with other Cloudflare services such as Workers AI, R2, D1, Hyperdrive, Durable Objects, Queues, and Workflows. Additionally, popular Python frameworks like FastAPI, Django, and Flask can be run inside Python Workers, and Dynamic Workers can be used to create Python Workers inside another Worker.
Cloudflare's journey to bring Python to Workers was facilitated by WebAssembly support since 2018, which allowed the use of Pyodide to compile Python applications. This effort aimed to create a platform for infinitely scalable Python applications, ensuring ease and performance comparable to developing Python applications elsewhere.
Developers are encouraged to explore the Python Workers documentation and start building their applications. Cloudflare will continue to support and enhance Python Workers based on developer feedback and needs.
