1Password Boosts Engineering Productivity by 21% with Codex

1Password has integrated Codex across its software delivery lifecycle, resulting in a 21% increase in engineering productivity and a 553% return on investment (ROI). The company estimates that Codex has reduced median pull request cycle time by 11% and cut investigation time for complex, multi-service production issues by about 90%.

Based on these results, 1Password is expanding access to Codex for other functions such as finance and marketing, enabling these teams to build their own tools and features more efficiently. The company maintains rigorous security standards throughout the integration process, ensuring no compromise on data protection.

Nancy Wang, CTO of 1Password, noted, "What’s been really eye-opening for a lot of our engineers is shortening the lifecycle between planning and being able to see a feature in production." The company also estimates an annual engineering capacity value of $783,750 based on 50 consistently active Codex developers, with a fully loaded annual cost of $250,000 per developer. At 100 consistent users, the modeled annual capacity value could reach approximately $3.1 million, assuming Codex accounts for a larger share of the measured productivity improvement.
